HISTORY: @fewiki
PERSONALITY: Ephraim is a young man with simple priorities, working to adjust himself to the fact that he was not born into a simple role.
As the prince of Renais, much is expected of him. No corners were cut in providing him with the best possible education, even to the extent of sending him to the allied Grado Empire to study there alongside Prince Lyon. Although he emerged having formed the most important friendship of his life, it didn't help much with the fact that Ephraim just never really took to most of his studies. History, politics, and etiquette bored him, to the eternal frustration of his teachers. Where he excelled, on the other hand, was at the art of war. While his other tutors found him wanting, his instructor in combat, the famed General Duessel, had nothing but praise for him; when battle was the subject at hand, Ephraim worked hard, learned fast, and exceeded expectations.
He's always been aware of the imbalance in his talents, and had great admiration for how easily the more bookish Lyon grasped the subjects he had no patience for. When he was younger, he even said that his twin sister Eirika ought to succeed the throne, rather than him. Ephraim knew exactly what he wanted to be happy in life, and a throne had no place in it. He dreamed of becoming a mercenary, with no obligations save to the battlefield.
In the face of an actual war, however, he's been forced to reevaluate his priorities and his duties. With the twins' father killed and with the two of them dealing with the war on other fronts, Renais suffers from a bad period under the careless leadership of the traitorous Orson, and Ephraim blames himself for everything inflicted on their people during his absence. All of this brings exactly what kingship means into focus for him, and it leaves Ephraim determined to rise to the challenge and overcome his failings, to become the ruler Renais needs after the death of King Fado.
He's in a good place to do so; Ephraim is fairly easygoing by nature. He doesn't stand on ceremony, is able to take criticism gracefully even when he disagrees with it, and shows little concern for what others think of him - he's more concerned with whether he's fulfilling his own potential and how he evaluates his own performance. If he thinks he can do better, that drives him forward, regardless of whether anyone else is satisfied with what he's already done. He sets a goal, moves toward it, and pays little heed to distractions, and his manner is as direct as his motivations. He doesn't lose his composure easily, and his ability to face forward without wavering even in the most dire of circumstances has earned him the loyalty and admiration of his knights.
That seemingly unwavering manner, however, is one of his greatest flaws as well as his strength; he doesn't open up easily and has some difficulty expressing himself, and can sometimes be a bit dense about the manner of others, as well. His dauntless nature can get him into deeper trouble than most people would find themselves in, because if he knows he can wring a victory out of something, he's liable to do it - even if skipping that battle might be more prudent in the long run.
He's aware of these faults, however, and he strives to overcome them. At heart, Ephraim is just a hotblooded young man who utterly lives for the fight - but that isn't what he needs to be, and so he works to keep his impulses in check and better himself for the sake of his kingdom. His pride won't let him do anything less.
CANON POWERS: Ephraim has no particular powers, except perhaps the fact that he's the only person in his canon who's able to wield Siegmund (presumably because of his royal blood). He's an exceptionally talented warrior and is said to be a skilled tactician, but his talents are a matter of aptitude and training, with nothing supernatural involved.

MAGIC ABILITY: If Ephraim challenges anyone to a duel, they will be compelled to accept regardless of their own wishes; this goes not only for those of the standard combat sort, but to anything that can be reasonably fit into the mold - hot dog eating contests, playing Uno, "I bet I can yell louder than you," whatever. (Naturally, I will make the requisite OOC inquiries before using this ICly!)
ANY WEAPONS/MAGICAL ITEMS?: The Flame Lance, Siegmund, one of the sacred weapons passed down by the royalty of Renais. Despite the name, there is no particular fire magic or affinity associated with it, but it does do super-effective damage against monsters, and confers a stat boost to strength.
ANY PETS?: Nope!
